Maternity
So you think you’re pregnant?
The Madison County Health Department (MCHD) provides prenatal care for the women in Madison County. All prenatal care can be received in the county for most women. Women with diabetes, high blood pressure or other conditions which make pregnancy risky are seen both at the Madison County Health Department in Marshall and MAHEC OB/GYN in Asheville with the majority of visits being at MCHD.

Who will deliver my baby if I use MCHD for prenatal care?
The providers at MCHD do not deliver babies. We only provide prenatal care.
If you come to MCHD for prenatal care you will deliver your baby at Mission Hospital with the MAHEC physician that is on-call at the time. All prenatal records are faxed to Mission labor and delivery unit after your 28 week visit and after your 36 week visit so that they have all the information to provide you and your baby with a safe labor and birth. |
But I won’t know the person who is going to deliver my baby.
|
Why use MCHD rather than an ob/gyn office for prenatal care?
|
Most OB/GYN offices are group practices of at least 4 different providers and in many cases more. You see some or all of these providers during your pregnancy but you will not know who is going to be on call when you go into labor.
