Madison County Board of Health Recognized as
​NC Outstanding Board of Health

Madison County Board of Health Chair, Dr. Robert Adams, accepts the Outstanding Board of Health Award for 2025 from the NC Association of Boards of Health recently in Hillsborough.  
Being selected for the Outstanding Board of Health Award means that the board has shown leadership, dedication, and expertise in managing the governance of the local health department.
We are proud of our Board of Health and appreciate their support!
Some achievements that were mentioned by the Association in the awards letter are:
"Your value to local health and human services is shown by: (1) being one of just three healthcare providers in Madison County (including your state-of-the-art dental center), as well as (2) by your effective Hepatitis-C treatment program, and (3) your medication-assisted programs for substance use disorders."
"You also guided the health department though the rigorous demands of the NC Public Health Department Re-accreditation process; and Madison was re-accredited with honors (the first time for this county)!"
"Additionally, when the option of consolidating human services was raised in your county, the Madison County Board of Health helped to orchestrate a thorough vetting process until the best solution for your area (at this time) was reached."
"Your board members created a culture of trust and shared values in Madison County when they fully engaged in the cleanup efforts after Hurricane Helene. When the storm struck, Madison County was basically isolated, which included a lack of communication with other institutions and officials in the county. Board members sprang into action, and without hesitation arrived at the community shelter ready to serve. Board members assembled cots, distributed blankets, directed traffic, served meals, and of course, provided medical guidance (just to give a few examples)! This was huge!"
