There are three primary goals:
- Improve the lives of Madison County residents living with a mental health challenge. Increased public education reduces the time from symptom onset to connection with treatment and leads to better outcomes.
- A reduction in the suicide rate by improving people's sensitivity to the warning signs of suicidal thinking and their comfort level with initiating a therapeutic conversation.
- Stigma-reduction via a program in the local schools, designed to improve mental health self-awareness and recognition of suicide danger signs in other youth.
Specific programs:
- Mental Health First Aid: A comprehensive, day-long, educational program which teaches participants to recognize early signs of a mental health challenge and effectively intervene.
- Youth Mental Health First Aid: As above, but for adults who work with youth.
- Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR): A one-hour suicide prevention workshop.
- Ending the Silence: A one-hour mental health stigma-reduction video and lecture presentation provided to local 6-9th graders.
All programs are provided free of charge, and can be scheduled as convenient to the receiving organization.
